Announcing the Michigan Wheat Program’s 2026 winter wheat-tastic wheat wisdom Wednesday webinar series

How about a stay-at-home conference session?  This January and February, the Michigan Wheat Program has lined up three wheat-tastic “Wheat Wisdom” webinars focused on marketing.

Marketing can be very broad and spot-on marketing presentations about wheat are challenging to find.  But this winter you can invest an hour on-line for a live webinar (or three) to learn what’s new in wheat marketing, and some tools that can grow your bottom line.

“We’re all experiencing tough markets right now, so it made sense to bring back our wheat-tastic webinars with a special focus on marketing information for Michigan wheat farmers,” said Jeffery Krohn, the Owendale farmer who chairs the nine-member Michigan Wheat Program (MWP) Board of Directors. “We on the Board are excited to hear what our experts have to share to help each of us with our bottom line.”

The webinars are free and take place every other Wednesday over the Zoom format.  Watch them live and chime in with questions or comments during the 60-minute sessions with some of our favorite wheat headliners – who are outstanding in their field (naturally)!

MWP executive director Jody Pollok-Newsom worked with MSU’s wheat specialist, Dennis Pennington, and the MSU Extension wheat team of Jenna Falor and Monica Jean to come up with these three exciting presentations:

Weds., Jan. 7, 7-8 pmWith tight crop margins, how do you get the most “bang for your buck” from your wheat crop?   Tune in when Dennis Pennington and Jon LaPorte, both from MSU, share their newly-developed wheat production calculator. This tool allows growers to make changes in the amount of inputs applied, their yield, their price, etc. Through this tool, growers see immediately what each variable means to their bottom line.

Weds., Jan 21, 7-8 pmWheat marketing is essential in this climate!  By Angie Setzer, Consus Consulting, Michigan. Setzer has the latest information on what’s happening now in the markets and what’s on the horizon. Tuning in helps you to prepare for what’s best for you.

Weds., Feb. 4 Planting wheat makes cents for growers in crop rotation. Dennis Pennington, MSU, and  Joanna Follings, Ontario Ministry of Ag, Food and Agribusiness, share results of research looking into the benefits of wheat in a crop rotation.

Each session is a 40-minute presentation and 20 minutes for audience questions.
